Drive a sustainable business

In order to achieve a circular economy and be able to offer customers sustainable solutions, all parts of our value chain - purchasing, manufacturing and transports - must reduce the resources used and thus lower the carbon dioxide emissions. Lindab should be a workplace that employees are proud of.

Sustainable sourcing

Sustainable sourcing is the integration of social, health, safety, ethical and environmental factors into the process of selecting suppliers. Lindab have zero-tolerance for any corruption and violations against human rights.

Suppliers of raw material, like steel, stands for the biggest environmental impact. Therefore, it’s important to prioritise cooperation with steel suppliers who drive development towards fossil-free steel and have good carbon dioxide intensity values.

Lindab is working towards only sourcing from democratic countries in Europe.

Action points and targets:

  • Annually, for 100 % of Lindab's first-tier suppliers to have signed the Supplier Code of Conduct1).
  • Annually, for 100 % of Lindab's first-tier suppliers to be sustainability certified1).
  • Near term target: Lindab commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, upstream transportation and distribution, waste generated in operations and use of sold products 25% within the same timeframe2).
  • Emissions from purchased steel, based on expected volume, should decrease by 101 ktons of CO2e by 2030 from the base year 2022. This would mean that 43% of the purchased steel is decarbonised3).

1) Suppliers in low and medium risk countries with a spend of at least 100 KEUR and in high risk countries with a spend of at least 25 KEUR, are included.
2) The target includes the purchase of direct materials as well as transportation between Lindab sites and transportation to customers paid for by Lindab.
3)Target is adjusted on an annual basis to ensure aligned with Lindab’s Science Based Targets.

Sustainable production

Energy efficiency is a main priority in all our facilities; production units, offices and stores. By focusing on energy efficiency, we will save recourses and therefor lower the environmental impact and costs.

Other focus areas for sustainable production are: increase the use of renewable energy, decrease total energy consumption, lower scrap rate, use upcycling for waste and use smart packaging.

Action points and targets:

  • Near term target: Lindab commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gasemissions with 56 % by 2030 from the base year 20221).
  • Long term target: Lindab commits to reduce absolute scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gasemissions with 90 % by 2050 from the base year 20221).
  • Lindab will use 100 % fossil-free electricity in its own operations by 2030.
  • Reduce the share of metal waste2) from own production by 9% by 2030, compared to 2023.

1)The target boundary includes land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks.
2)The share is calculated as metal waste from own operations sent for recycling, divided by total metal use.

Sustainable transportation

One of Lindab’s largest sources of emissions is transportation. The impact of transportation can be decreased by choosing low-emission alternatives and by changing the distribution setup.

Where possible, fossil free alternatives like HVO or electrical vehicles will be used.

Production of bulky products is being moved from central to regional units to get closer to the customer and reduce the need for transport.

Action points and targets:

  • 50% of all freight transports financed by Lindab, between Lindab’s facilities and to customers, shall run on renewable fuels or electricity by 2030 and 100% by 2040.
  • 100 % of Lindab's company cars will be powered by renewable fuels or electricity by 2030.
  • 100 % of the transportation agreements between Lindab and first-tier suppliers1) must include environmental requirements by 2025.
  • Collaborate with customers and suppliers to create transport solutions with focus on reducing the environmental impact.

1) Suppliers in low and medium risk countries with a spend of at least 100 KEUR and in high risk countries with a spend of at least 25 KEUR, are included.
